As someone who is into adventure, resorts are usually the last thing on my mind. I love exploring volcanoes in Asia, scuba diving with sharks in Africa, and climbing mountains in South America, but when it comes to pure relaxation, it’s really hard to beat a luxury resort.

Resorts are something I’ve come to appreciate over the years and recently, my wife and I had the chance to spend three nights at the Marival Armony Luxury Resort & Suites, an adult-only all-inclusive resort in Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit. When it comes to Puerto Vallarta vacations, it’s hard to beat the Riviera Nayarit area, which is located roughly 45 minutes north of the famous Puerto Vallarta.

I’m literally sitting in the San Jose Airport (SJO) ready to depart as I write this travel guide for the best 10 day Costa Rica Itinerary. This is my second trip to one of Latin America’s safest countries and I highly doubt it’ll be the last.

Costa Rica is a tropical paradise. From lush green jungles to powerful waterfalls, stunning beaches, and awesome volcanoes, Costa Rica is incredibly diverse. I can totally see why people love it here, despite it being a very expensive country (on part with Canada). Cost is perhaps the only downfall.

However, almost everyone can speak English, which makes it an easy destination to explore. It’s also a great country for a Costa Rica road trip and there are lots of tour companies, hostels and hotels, and accessible public transportation options. The people are also very friendly and as I mentioned, the country is probably the safest of all Latin-American countries, which is a huge bonus.

Whether you are visiting Costa Rica to surf, sunbathe, hike, do a yoga retreat, learn about coffee, or explore the rainforest and simply connect with nature, this country has anything you could want.

How a Road Trip Across Canada Created a Passion Business

Back in 2009, I began my foray into world travel. For many years, I had been longing to go backpacking through New Zealand and Australia but kept waiting for friends to come with me. During those years that I was “waiting”, I went to college and graduated, bought a home, and even transferred into university to work towards my 4-year business degree. But during the middle of that my time at university, I had the urge to finally make my dream trip happen. I felt that I could no longer wait and so, after my third year, I left. I rented out my apartment at a major loss, took a year off from university, and jumped on a plane to New Zealand. 

During those 6 months of solo travel, I ended up both creating and crushing my bucket list, which entailed things like sky-diving, bungy-jumping, scuba diving, and hang-gliding. Before that, I was not the kind of person to strap an oxygen tank to my back and jump in the ocean with sharks, nor was I the kind of guy to strap thousands of elastic bands to my angle and jump off a bridge. Puerto Vallarta Vacations During COVID

Okay, so first things first, this was somewhat of a new experience for us. Despite visiting Mexico dozens of times and despite my wife being born and raised in Mexico, we’ve almost never been to an all-inclusive resort before. In fact, the only two times we’ve ever done an all-inclusive hotel was in Puerto Vallarta and never for more than three nights.

For most of my travelling life, I’ve kinda looked down on the whole “resort” thing. After all, so many Americans and Canadians spent an entire week or two at an all-inclusive resort and then claim they’ve “been to Mexico”. While technically true, life within a resort is nothing like the real Mexico. It’s pretty much just an exclusive club and you miss out on awesome local culture, ancient pyramids, colonials towns, and more.

Who woulda thought that we’d be spending a good chunk of the 2020s on lockdown in our own homes. I thought we were supposed to be flying around in earth-powered Jetson vehicles, transporting ourselves through the sky. Instead, we’re all inside hiding from an enemy that’s barely visible under a microscope.

We’re used to travelling the globe with a nomadic lifestyle. We’re used to going downtown and hanging out with friends. We’re used to going to the office and spending a little bit too long in the bathroom just to escape another minute of the work-life. Now we know – it could be worse. haha.

But guess what! You don’t have to be bored. While you should definitely get outside for a walk now and then, there’s also plenty of opportunities to get to have fun inside, learn new things, laugh at people doing stupid things, and all sorts of other digital things. Inside or outside. I never get bored. There’s so much to do!

Below is a list of things that have come up during the COVID-19 pandemic but it will also be updated as we go because even when the pandemic goes away, people get bored for some reason.

From the Red Sea to the Pyramids – Exploring Egypt Above and Under

Blue ocean to my right. A massive coral wall to my left. Above me, a shark glides near the surface. An Oceanic Whitetip. This is what we’ve all been waiting for and it’s only our third dive of the trip.

Known as a rather “curious” shark, all of us have been briefed on what to do during an encounter with one of these magnificent creatures. The first rule is to stay calm. This is a fairly general rule for most animal encounters. They tend to sense how nervous you are and if you start to flail around, you look injured and like a very easy meal. The second rule is to stay vertical. Perhaps this makes you look bigger. I don’t know. The third rule is to keep your limbs in. Don’t stick out your arm or wave it around in a panic.
