How to Book Airbnb and Other Home Rentals Around the World
Airbnb is quite new but has quickly become one of the most popular options for finding unique accommodations in many different countries around the world. Airbnb is basically a platform for finding locals who are renting out a room in their home or renting out their entire home. Airbnb can be a great way to meet some locals but still have your own private room. Overall, it is a great choice for unique accommodations or for saving money in most major cities. However, there are other similar options for private home rentals.
Let’s get started…
Airbnb
Since Airbnb dominates the homeowner rental market, this section has been named after them. With Airbnb, you can rent single rooms or entire islands. You can also rent out a room in your own house to make some extra money. Check it out and if you want a free $25 credit, click this link here. Take a look here for some essential tips on how to find the perfect Airbnb.
PRO TIP:
If you are staying for an extended amount of time (a week or more), send a message to the Host enquiring about a special rate. As a Host, I have given people a special rate when they have asked me.

VRBO
Similar to Airbnb in that it connects you with homeowners renting you their place. This is actually older than Airbnb but it is not as popular. However, the listings will be different on every site so it’s a good idea to check all your options when looking for that perfect place.
Behomm
This is another global home exchange site but is only open to designers and visual artists. Membership is by invitation only and your first year of membership is free. Most properties are in the Americas and Europe, although it’s growing quickly.
Kid & Coe
Kid & Coe is a vacation rental website catering to family-friendly properties. Whether you’re looking for coastal escapes, country getaways, or city style living, this is the site for anyone traveling with a family.
Tripping
I’ve been told that this is one of the best sites to compete with Airbnb. You’ll find millions of listings of alternative accommodation around the world.
HomeAway
Another website where you can find and book vacation homes around the world.
Wimdu.com
This is another site similar to Airbnb but used mostly in Europe.
Perfect Places
This website is another good resource for finding vacation rental properties.
9 Flats
This private community is made up of people who rent their short-term accommodation to each other.
One Fine Stay
This website offers more upscale accommodation in cities around the world.
**
As you can see, there are plenty of options for booking home rentals and alternative accommodation around the world. This is only a small list of the options out there but I didn’t want to make you too confused. Sometimes it’s best to search a couple of the websites and see which one gives you the best options, or which one feels the best, or which one gives you the best deal. There’s no right or wrong way to do it.
If you’ve tried any of the above or a different website, please leave a comment below about your experience so we can help each other live limitless!
Thanks
Matt
